Nurturing New Talent: Harvey’s Two Weeks at Design Seven

In an industry where opportunities can be few and far between, making space for the next generation of interior designers feels not only important, but essential. This summer we welcomed Harvey, a work experience student, into the Design Seven studio in Wick, Bristol, and what a two weeks it has been.

From the moment he walked through the door, Harvey brought energy, curiosity, and a fresh perspective to everything we do. Whether it was sketching out design ideas, exploring material finishes, or observing the process behind our latest show home interiors in Somerset, his sharp eye for detail and enthusiasm for learning stood out.

Interior design is often seen as a closed door, something to admire from the outside but rarely step into. That is a perception we are determined to change. By opening up our studio to students like Harvey, we are not just giving them a glimpse of how professional design projects come together, we are actively investing in the future of the profession. New ideas, fresh perspectives, and creative voices are what keep interior design in the South West alive and thriving.

And Harvey proved exactly that. His thoughtful questions and willingness to roll up his sleeves made him a genuine asset during his time with us. Beyond the work, his positivity and good humour lifted the whole team. It was a reminder that design is at its best when it is collaborative, playful, and fuelled by passion.

For us, mentoring is not just about passing down knowledge, it is about creating an environment where people can grow, experiment, and see their potential in action. Harvey’s time here underlined how rewarding that can be, not only for him, but for the whole studio.

We could not be prouder of the contribution he made in such a short time. It has been a joy having you with us, Harvey, and we look forward to watching your creativity flourish in the future.
